First Grade - 7 Habits Pics

Below are pictures of great things our first grade teachers have done with the 7 Habits. We are concentrating on 1 habit a week and hope the kids really embrace these habits as we have. I'm working on compiling all our Kindergarten Data Notebook pages into one document and I will post as a freebie later this week. FEEL FREE TO PIN ANY OF THESE PICTURES!!!!!!

Habit 1 - Be Proactive FREEBIES

This week, every teacher is teaching Habit 1: Be Proactive. We have so many great things going on. Below are a few things that kindergarten is doing to help our kids learn what it means to be proactive. I will be posting pictures of what our first grade teachers are doing later. They are on my phone and I can't get them uploaded yet. I will edit and add them later tonight or tomorrow. I hope to post later in the week from other grades and give more freebies away for Habit 1. This is all new to us so if any of you have any suggestions, please comment!!!!! Our 3rd grade team is working on a podcast that will be posted soon (THANK YOU 3RD GRADE!)

Kindergarten has a CD with this poem as a song. I'm not sure where we got it. I'll look tomorrow when I get to school and see if I can let you know. But you could still recite it or have it posted. We are going to use it to teach the "Can Do" attitude to our kids.

We are going to make playdough with our kids to use in reading and math centers. This activity will be whole group and we will do it together. However you have to use very hot water so the teacher must actually do the mixing while talking to the kids about the process. We are using this as Habit 1 because we will talk about being proactive while using playdough in centers. In order to make it last all year, we much be sure to BE PROACTIVE and put the top on the playdough each time or it will dry out. This is taking responsibility for themselves when they clean up their center.

We are TRANSFORMED!

What a month! On July 23rd and 24th, many of our staff and faculty volunteered to transform out school to begin the Leader in Me process. We are ready to be leaders and help our kids become leaders. Just look at all our pictures! I am so excited as well as all our staff.

Mrs. Wilson, is also helping to paint the lunchroom. This took all afternoon. We finished at 7:00 p.m.

Our 7 Habits canvases were painted by one of our teachers and her husband, Carol and Gary Maglinger

These paw prints will really help order in the hallways and help the kids tell which way to go. They took over 5 hours to put down!!!!!!! They are vinyl. Mrs. Carrie Osborne (from Osborne's OC) got these made for us.

This is our wonderful principal Stacy Harper. We painted the green trim in our lunchroom yellow.

Mrs. Harper is EXCITED about Leader in Me in our school.

I think we are all delirious from the paint fumes.

Mrs. Benningfield, our staff developer, make our SHARPEN THE SAW bulletin board. I can't wait to see how we use this.

New School Shirts

We wanted a way to communicate our Leader In Me habits to our families. We visited many schools while learning about Leader In Me and one of the schools (I can't remember which one) made t-shirts with the 7 Habits and gave every child a shirt. This way, parents would see the habits while they did the laundry weekly. We thought this was a great idea and made our shirts.  You can see below. Let us know what you think about our shirts. Our mascot is the husky so we used the paw print. Does your school have shirts to communicate Leader In Me???? If so, we'd love to showcase them on our blog.

We are also going to have 2 transformation days at our school in July to add quotes to our walls, put up the 7 Habits paintings, and to make our school a Leadership school. I'm excited to share pictures of our process. We'd love to see pictures of your school. Our Journey Begins

Our school is just beginning as a  Leader in Me school based on work by Stephen Covey. I hope that this blog will be a useful tool for teachers to find resources and ideas for how to implement the 7 habits. We just had our Vision Training and we are all excited to re-invent our school so that we can help our kids become leaders. Below are pictures of our staff in our new school t-shirts which have the 7 habits on the back. The rest are pictures of our Vision Training.
